NOTES:
Use the Recent search to see posts that have undergone changes recently.
The moretbd search highlights incomplete documents. They can be successfully used up to the point of the future information.
The Agendas (3) search pulls up recent meeting agendas. That provides a fast way back to active topics.
Introduction
This is the top of my notes relative to my ASTM related activities.
The Summary gives a brief overview of the information to be found here.
The Outline shows the overall structure of the material. IF there is a post with notes for a subject there will be link that says (TOP). A (source) link will take the reader back to the material initially referenced to add the item to the outline. Quite often that will lead back to an ASTM web page.
Once you know topics by name, the Index is a fast way to go to the top post on that subject.
Use the Recent search to see posts that have undergone changes recently.
Finally, be sure and take a look at A National Conversation. That is the method I am exploring for drawing in as many people as possible to the exploration of various topics. The idea and methodology are spelled out in that section.
Summary
I have been a member of ASTM for several decades now. In that time I primarily participated in work related to dynamic force verification. The task group E08.03.02, for which I currently serve as the chair, is responsible for supporting ASTM E467. Over the years, the published content of that document has evolved in response to our changing understanding as well as needs other members have asked to have addressed. During this process in addition to the information that was added to the document the group has developed a much deeper and richer understanding of the subject. This post is the top of articles and links which attempt to capture that additional information in ways that the testing community can effectively use.
NOTE 1: Although the content you find here is built upon multiple individual’s personal experiences the one thing it is not is an official ASTM resource. It is encouraged that this material be used in support of ASTM activities when and where it seems appropriate. However the accuracy of the material is in no way verified by ASTM.
NOTE 2: Although my personal focus has been almost exclusively on dynamic force verification and general material test machine performance, this resource is being laid out more generically. The motivation for this is to provide an easy way for other members of the material test community to explore the potential for adding supplemental information to their ASTM areas of interest.
Notes:
TOP links go to the top Substack post for that topic
A source link connects to a general reference for that topic
A list link pulls up posts that contain the tag specified at the top of the results list.
fjaannnnnn IDs are search keys for Facebook.
Random Notes (TOP / list) are posts that don’t have a home yet in the master outline. The posts are often just stubs of ideas to be developed later.

Background
In early 2025, motivated by concerns for the future of our country, I started a Substack publication called Table Talk. The top post there is At The Table. Concerned that social media as currently employed primarily drives division among people I wanted to try to change that. What seemed to be missing was a clear connection between the social media interactions and something that the group as a whole could build together. Through the use of one or more master lists of tags, I believe I have come up with a way to do that. See this master post in Table Talk for details about the methodology and how it is evolving.
